Buying a Home in San Antonio: A First Look

Buying a Home in San Antonio: A First Look

Buying a home is a big step, and it's normal to feel unsure where to start. I'm Josue Mayfield, MRP, with Big Bexar Realty Group, brokered by Real Broker, LLC. Here's a patient first look at how buying around San Antonio usually goes, so the whole thing feels a little more manageable.

Start with the map, not the listings

San Antonio is spread out. I-10, I-35, I-37, Loop 410, Loop 1604, and US 281 all affect how long it takes to get from one place to another. Before you start scrolling through homes, write down the places you'll go most often, like work, family, a gym, or a place of worship, and how far you're willing to drive to them. That list will help with your search more than anything else.

To get a feel for different parts of the region, read my pages on San Antonio, Boerne, and the Texas Hill Country.

Make a short list of what matters

Separate your must-haves from your nice-to-haves. Think about bedrooms, yard space, a single-story layout, a garage, or anything else you know you need. You can change the list later, but having one gives us a starting point.

Browse at your own pace

When you're ready to look around, try Explore Homes to search the area and Current Listings to browse homes on the market. Save anything that catches your eye, and we'll talk through it together.

About financing

Financing usually comes up early, so here's where I stand: I'm not a mortgage lender, and I don't give loan advice. I work with trusted mortgage lenders who can answer those questions, including Joseph Hummel and Candice Easton, and you're always welcome to use any lender you choose.

Touring, offers, and closing

Once you've found homes you like, we'll tour them together. When one feels right, I'll explain the Texas contract forms and each step through closing in plain language, and you'll make every decision yourself. For more detail, see Buying a Home.

A note on schools

If schools are part of your decision, please look at the official sources yourself. The Texas Education Agency publishes ratings at txschools.gov, and each school district has its own attendance-zone lookup on its website. I don't rate or recommend schools.

Ready when you are

If you'd like to talk it through, schedule a time, call or text (210) 875-0155, or email BigBexarRG@gmail.com.
